eToro is a global multi-asset trading and investment platform founded in 2007, with a business model built around combining traditional online brokerage services with social and community-based investing. The company has developed from an early online trading platform into a large international financial-services group serving more than 40 million registered users across approximately 75 countries. eToro Group Ltd became a publicly traded company in May 2025 and is listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker ETOR.
The eToro platform provides access to a broad selection of financial markets and investment products. Depending on the client's country and the regulated entity serving the account, these may include stocks, ETFs, cryptocurrencies, currencies, commodities, indices, futures and Contracts for Difference (CFDs). The platform currently advertises access to more than 5,000 assets in supported markets. Availability, ownership structure, leverage and trading conditions vary by jurisdiction and product; for example, leveraged or short positions in stocks and certain other instruments are generally executed as CFDs rather than as ownership of the underlying asset.
A defining feature of eToro is its focus on social investing. Its proprietary CopyTrader technology allows eligible users to automatically replicate the portfolio activity of selected investors, while Smart Portfolios provide pre-constructed thematic and diversified investment strategies. The platform also offers recurring investments, fractional-share investing in supported markets, a virtual portfolio for practice, market sentiment information, research and educational resources. In 2026, eToro continued expanding its technology offering with AI-related investment tools and Agent Portfolios.
eToro operates through a network of separately regulated legal entities. eToro (Europe) Ltd is regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission under licence 109/10 and also holds a MiCA licence for crypto-asset services in the European Economic Area. eToro (UK) Ltd is regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority under FRN 583263. Other group entities are regulated by authorities including ASIC in Australia, the FSRA in Abu Dhabi, the Seychelles FSA, the Monetary Authority of Singapore and US financial regulators, including the SEC and FINRA for eToro USA Securities Inc. The precise regulatory framework and client protections therefore depend on which eToro entity provides the account.
Client money and assets are held in segregated accounts in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements. Eligible clients of eToro Europe may have access to the Cyprus Investor Compensation Fund for covered claims up to €20,000, while eligible clients of eToro UK may benefit from FSCS protection of up to £85,000 for qualifying investment claims. These protections are designed for circumstances such as an investment firm's failure and do not protect clients against normal investment or trading losses.
eToro's pricing varies by product, country and client status. Depending on the market, stock trades may carry a fixed commission, while ETF transactions may be commission-free in supported jurisdictions. Crypto trading generally involves transaction fees, while CFD positions may involve opening/closing spreads and overnight financing charges. Currency-conversion, withdrawal and other service fees can also apply depending on the account and transaction. Clients should therefore review the fee schedule applicable to their country before trading.
Overall, eToro is distinguished by the combination of a large global user community, proprietary social-investing technology, broad multi-asset market access and regulation across several major jurisdictions. Its CopyTrader ecosystem and easy-to-use interface may be particularly relevant to users interested in community-driven investing, while more active traders should carefully consider product-specific spreads, CFD financing costs, execution structure and the regulatory entity under which their account is opened. The platform's features, products and protections vary materially between jurisdictions, so clients should verify the terms applicable to their country before opening an account.
