Broker Protection Claims: Seven Checks Before You Open an Account
Learn how to verify broker regulation, client-money, negative-balance and complaint claims before relying on marketing language.
IC Markets moved its main domain to ic.com in July 2026. Here is what existing clients should verify about login routes, communications and account terms.
IC announced a scheduled migration from icmarkets.com to ic.com on July 11, 2026. The change was presented as a brand evolution, but it also provides a useful reminder to verify domains, login routes and legal entities whenever a broker changes its digital identity.
| Area | What IC confirmed | What clients should verify |
|---|---|---|
| Announcement | Published July 7, 2026 | Use confirmed company channels |
| Migration | icmarkets.com moved to ic.com on July 11 | Verify the complete domain before login |
| Access | Possible website or platform interruptions | Confirm the current portal and support route |
| Accounts | No entity transfer stated in the notice | Read the current client agreement |
IC announced that icmarkets.com would move to ic.com as part of a wider brand transition. The scheduled migration window ran from 07:00 to 11:00 GMT+3 on July 11, when many CFD markets were closed. The company said the process should be completed within the day, while acknowledging that website or platform interruptions could occur.
The announcement framed the move as the first of several planned updates. It did not state that client accounts would be transferred to a different legal entity, nor did it announce a change to client balances, positions or partner referral links. Those distinctions matter: a new domain is a confirmed operational change, while a change of contracting entity would require separate documentation.
For a client, the immediate risk around a domain migration is operational rather than market directional. Saved bookmarks can become outdated, password managers may not recognise the new address, and convincing lookalike domains can appear around a widely publicised rebrand. Clients should navigate from a confirmed company communication and check the full address before entering credentials.
IC also advised clients who intended to keep positions open during the migration to avoid unnecessary exposure and maintain sufficient free margin. That warning did not predict a failure or price move. It recognised that even a planned maintenance window can reduce a client's ability to react quickly if a position needs attention.
The migration date has passed, so the relevant task is no longer preparing for downtime. It is confirming that every account touchpoint now leads to the expected destination and that the documents displayed for the account match the client's understanding.
A shorter domain can strengthen brand recognition, but trust should not depend on branding alone. SafeGate would monitor whether the transition remains consistent across the website, client portal, legal documents, app listings, regulatory records and support channels.
The useful signal is not simply that IC changed its name or address. It is how clearly the broker communicated the change, whether access was restored as stated, and whether clients can still identify the entity responsible for their account.
The migration notice did not establish that. Clients should check the entity named in their own agreement and current account disclosures.

Interactive Brokers and the Bucharest Stock Exchange announced a new market-access link on August 13, 2026. The development broadens the markets available through IBKR, but access does not remove the need to check eligibility, fees, execution, custody, and protection.
